Florida's Best Practices, an annual publication of the Division of Cultural Affairs, which highlights the arts education programs funded by the Division has just been published and is now available. This unique publication documents the innovative projects that took place throughout Florida in 2001-2002 including successful models that cross cultural boundaries, integrate the arts into the curriculum, reinforce classroom learning, build intergenerational and community ties, and promote lifelong learning in the arts Since 1998, Florida’s Best Practices has provided legislators, schools, and interested constituents with detailed information about the exemplary arts education projects that have recently taken place in their local communities. Families, children, schools, and local communities all directly benefited from these projects, which ranged from arts programs for at risk youth to artist residencies in schools and community centers. During the 2001-2002 fiscal year, the Division sponsored over 80 arts education projects in 24 counties, serving over 687,000 individuals, including over 490,000 children. Florida’s Best Practices details each unique project and shows some excellent solutions to arts education programming and research. These projects have taken place in a variety of settings such as schools, universities and colleges, community centers, juvenile justice detention centers, senior centers, museums, symphony and concert halls, and performing arts centers.
