Resources for Artist Opportunities Deadline: August 22, 2008New Municipal Parking Garage Art ProjectPublic Art, Call to Artists The City of Naples, Florida, Public Art Program is requesting qualifications from artists, or artist teams, to create site-specific artwork to be integrated with a new three-story municipal parking garage in downtown Naples. The project goal is to create an inviting urban experience for the residents and thousands of annual visitors who come to Naples for a premier shopping, dining, and cultural experience. The total all inclusive budget of $95,000 (USD) shall include every cost incurred by the artist such as, but not limited to: design, materials, fabrication, transportation, insurance, installation, and travel to and from site, consultations with the project architect/design team, as required, documentation, and a suggested contingency to cover unexpected expenses. The exhibit will feature seven, larger-than-life installations of ephemeral art depicting an artist’s vision of the type of home an animal might live in. A $1,000 stipend will be given to the seven artists chosen to create the installations. We invite you to consider participating, or request you forward this invitation on to anyone that might be interested in participating. The Concept QualificationsAny individual or organizaiton can apply. The suggested size of the animal house should be 8’x8’x8’, but the Zoo will entertain larger or smaller creations. The Zoo is requesting the homes be made of mostly natural (wood, metal, etc.) and recycled materials, but there is no limit to the creativity. However, we are looking for variety—whimsical, historic, aeronautical, etc.At this time, the Zoo only seeks sketch ideas and concepts, not constructed models. This fee entitles the artist to a submission of up to (3) works. Three-dimensional work may be represented by two slides (different views). These slides will be counted for a single work. Deadline: January 12, 2009Embracing Our Differences - Call to Artist - Cash AwardsJuried Show/Competition, Call to Artists Embracing Our Differences invites artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students to participate in its 6th annual visual art exhibit celebrating diversity. National and international submissions are encouraged. 45 artists will be selected for the exhibit. The Embracing Our Differences exhibit will be displayed throughout the month of April 2009 at Island Park along Sarasota’s beautiful bayfront. The exhibit will also be displayed throughout the month of May 2009 in North Port, Florida. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 550,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. An additional six “honorable mention” selections will be made. Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme “Embracing Our Differences”. The art-work will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size – 16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high. Artists are encouraged to use bold saturated colors and strong lines. Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals.
