Who is eligible to apply for a fellowship?
To be eligible for a fellowship you must:

o Be a legal resident of Florida
o Be a professional creative artist at least 18 years of age.
o Not be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking program during the fellowship period.
o Not have received a fellowship award from the Division of Cultural Affairs during or after fiscal year 2000-2001

Can I apply for a fellowship to pay for art school?

Students enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking program are not eligible for a fellowship.

If I receive a fellowship, are there limitations on how I can spend the money?

The allowable uses of a fellowship award are very broad and you are not required to spend the funds for the production of works of art, or for a specific project. The funds can be used on anything that will support the advancement of your career. The only limitation is that funds cannot be used for the exclusive benefit of a third party or for an expense accrued prior to the start of the grant period; for example, the preparation of the fellowship application.

How can Division of Cultural Affairs staff assist me in the application process?

Division staff can provide clarification of information provided in the Guidelines. Staff can serve only in an advisory capacity and cannot provide subjective evaluations on the content or quality of any fellowship application. Staff will not be able to tell you how good your chances of receiving a fellowship are.

Who reviews my application?

Initially, staff will check each application for technical eligibility according to the basic eligibility criteria listed in the Guidelines.

Eligible applications are forwarded to the designated review panel for subjective evaluation and scoring. The panels are comprised of individuals knowledgeable in the arts and include arts administrators, artists, educators, community leaders, and past fellowship recipients.

What support materials should I submit with my fellowship application?

A selection of well-chosen support materials will make your application more competitive and give panelists a more complete picture of your credentials.

o Read the guidelines carefully, specifically the discipline descriptions. Suggestions on support materials are provided in each discipline section.
o Be concise. The inclusion of excessive support materials does not allow time for a through review of all materials submitted.

When is the application due?

The application form must be sumitted in OASIS by midnight EST on the deadline date.

The application package (support materials & attachments) must be “postmarked” by the application deadline.

“Postmarked” means that applications must bear a postmark indicating that they were mailed on or prior to the deadline.

I sent my application in by the postmark deadline, but I forgot to fill out one of the forms or send some support materials, what can I do?
Your options are limited.

o Following the application deadline, only staff requested amendments will be forwarded to the panelists. If you have omitted a form or any information necessary for technical eligibility of the application, staff will contact you directly to request such an amendment.
o Any support materials submitted after the final deadline will not be forwarded to the panel for review.

If I receive a fellowship, when will I receive the money?

Once complete award documents are returned to the Division, a check will be issued. Typically, Fellowship payments are received in February of the Fellowship year.

No fellowship funds will be available before the beginning of the fellowship period. Please keep in mind that it often takes several weeks to process award documents and issue checks. You should not start spending the funds until you receive the check.
